After spending a day in Volterra we headed out for a day ride to San Gimignano. This ride was only 33 kilometersThis was an extra loop day so people had the choice to head back to San Gimignano or take a shuttle back to Volterra after wandering through the town for a while. This post has pics from Volterra also, but most of them are the ride to San Gimignano. San Gimignano is known as the Manhatten of the Middle Ages. The nobles competed against one another by building towers to show who had the greatest wealth. It's now the tourist traps of tourist traps, but still a fun place to visit. We only had a short time to wander around but got a pretty good look at the place. The ride there was through rolling hills and lots of trees. Very pretty country. The last pics after the Gelateria are when we got back to Volterra.
