Volterra!
We arrived in Volterra just in time for the heavens to open up. I don't think anyone really cared that much unless you wanted to stay out at the pool longer. The important thing, the bar, was still open for business. The rain poured down, people drank beer or relaxed, and then. . .it stopped. Volterra is known for its alabaster carvings and Etruscan history. It's situated at the top of a fairly tall hill and at one time was about twice the size it is now. I snapped a few shots from the hotel window and then it was off to explore the town. While in Volterra over the two days we got to take a cooking lessen and had some traditional, and pretty fun, original Volterran music. Doesn't get much better than that. Sorry, lot's of people shots in here, but still some good scenery ones too. The two little alabaster carvings that are all by themselves were boxes designed to hold the remains of the dead. The cool part of the one with Ulysees (sp?) is that it shows how far the Greeks reached out to the rest of the known world at the time.
