101.2 Miles of Tahoe, Kirkwood, and Diamond Valley

In preparation for the Deathride we did what I happily call the Purgatory Ride. At 100 miles and about 7700' of elevation gain it's a great and fun ride. The weather started out perfect but we had large thunderstorms toward the end. By some miracle we avoided all the rain and had one of the best tailwinds I've had in some time on the way back. Nothing like cruising at 35mph along the flats and not expended that much energy. The ride started in Genoa and we then rode up and over Kingsbury Grade to Tahoe around Pioneer Trail to Upper Truckee River Road up and over Luther Pass to Highway 88. At the top of Highway 88, Carson Pass Joe and I split off from teh group to drop down to Kirkwood and then ride back up Carson Pass. It started out sunny and nice but quickly (like in 15 minutes) developed into big thunderheads. We had a great pushing tail wind that helped us back down and around Diamond Valley and then back into Genoa. What a great ride!! Whoo hoo!
